Masthead Analysis
Kerrang! Masthead Analysis
The title is “Kerrang!” which is very eye catching as it is in white, which contrasts with the dark red background. The magazine uses circulation techniques to bring the photo forward into the centre of the page. This shows the customer the main/ most popular part of the magazine, and what a part of it will be based on. In this example, it is someone from a popular rock band. It also pushes the title to the background, which shows it is a popular magazine as it can remove the majority of its name, and still be well known. This also means the brand identity is very unique due to the patterns in the title, and the all caps font.
RockSound Masthead Analysis

The title is Rock Sound which instantly tells the audience the type of music that will feature in the magazine. It is all in capital letters which shows it is loud and bold. It is in the background of the image which shows the magazine is popular as the title doesn’t need to be the main part of the front cover. It is bright green with no outline colour which makes it look simplistic but also makes it stand out.
Q Masthead Analysis

The title “Q” is placed in the background of the main image on the front page as it draws the focus to the image rather than the text. However, the text is large enough to see, and is still noticeable as it is a white against a red background, which contrasts with both the white background and the image of the band which is quite dark. It is a capital letter which makes it very bold and loud, which makes the brand identity quite unique. In addition, as it is a single letter, which makes it different in comparison to other magazine titles that are usually longer, for example “Rock Sound”. It is left justified and is at the top of the page which allows it to easily be seen and shows it is of higher importance than the other information on the page. The colours match with the strapline and other text on the page which shows it has a set house style.
